The Skill Of All Skills To Success

There is one skill you need to succeed in every area of your life. To become happy, healthy and wealthy.

Only one skill.

What is it?

Since I’m traveling in Greece right now, I’ll dedicate today’s blog post to the father of western thinking … the Greek philosopher and master of rational thinking … Socrates himself.

Why Socrates?

Because, I’m going to explain how to use his skills in modern practical reality and then I’m going to give you ONE technique that will literally automate your success – be it building successful business or relationship or improving your health or any other area of your life.

But since this powerful technique comes directly from the first skill, you probably know about it already - you’re just not using it effectively enough.

Because the skill of all skills is … dadarara …

Common sense!

It may sound simple – and it is – but don’t stop reading. It’s more to it.

You see, the educational grandson of Socrates – Aristotle – came up with the ground formula for common sense. Which again is the key to all western science. The formula is simple. It sounds something like this…

Either something is or it isn’t.

It makes total sense doesn’t it?

To be or not to be, that’s the question (or something like that).

But are probably thinking: “aren’t there any gray fields? Something where things are not quite that simple?”

Not really. You just have to make sure the question is right and you’ll always get the answer either Yes or No.

So how is this going to help us build health, wealth and happiness?

By applying common sense to everything in our life and asking ourselves one question about everything we do. The basic question for success:

“Is what I’m doing right now helping me to reach my goal. Is it making me more happy, healthy or wealthy (or whatever your goal is)”.

YES or NO!

Most of us act 95% out of habits. These habits come from our upbringing and emotional programming. Even people who sound and look more rational than everybody else, are often more habit and emotional driven than anyone.

A friend of mine is always saving money. It’s looks very rational. He rolls every penny between his fingers before he spends it. The energy he uses to save a few dollars would be enough to make hundreds.

He spends a dollar to save a dime - literally.

This man is extremely skilled but he’s driven by money worries to the extreme that even if he’s pretty well off, he has way less wealth than he should. Despite his obsession about money.

Is that rational?

No. He’s driven by the habits his family had to develop in the great depression.

If he applied common sense – and the technique I’m about to teach you - he would actually have much more wealth and be happier than he is. He probably wouldn’t have had heart-attack in his early forties.

It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

But that’s enough talk about someone out there. Lets talk about YOU.

The most frequent comment I get on this blog sounds something like this:

Thank you for reminding me about what I already knew.

Many things I talk about on this blog are no new truths. We all know the most basic things to keep our body healthy and what makes us feel good.

But do we act on it.

Do you…

  • drink half a gallon of water every day?
  • go out for a 10-20 minutes walk every day?
  • go to sleep before midnight every night and wake up early?
  • eat healthy organic food every day? is your plate with vegetables and fruits?

Just to name a few things that are good for you.

Most of us will answer most of these questions NO.

But why not.

Don’t you feel good after a few minutes walk? Doesn’t your body feel refreshed when you drink a lot of water and eat healthy food? Aren’t all these things something that makes you healthier and happier?

Common sense tells me that it’s rational to do the things that makes us feel good.

So why don’t we?

You can blame it on lack of time if you want to, but I see most people waste hours a day on TV, Internet and other “useless” activities that most often do not create anything positive.

Resentment and negative interactions are the two most opposite things to common sense I can think of.

Positivity gets you where you want to go ten times faster – or even quicker than that because negativity most often pulls you away from your goals.

Dave Carnage– in his book how to win friends and influence people – explains in details how you can win ANYBODY over with pure positivity. It works with multi billion dollar business negotiation, it has prevented wars where millions of people would have died – it will work in your work place and your relationship just as well.

We know this. But that doesn’t stop us. Big part of our lives are colored with resentment every day. Doesn’t make any sense to me. How about you?

We must be acting out of old habits.

So in today’s blog, we’ve come to the conclusion that most of us do not apply much common sense to our lives. We often act opposite to what we know to be the right thing to do.

Where is that going to get us?

Socrates – 2500 years ago – was executed for nicely pointing out to the authorities is Athens how little common sense they really used and how contradict their lives were.

He wasn’t actually rubbing it into anybodies nose.

You see, he himself had come to the conclusion that he was extremely stupid and didn’t really know anything at all.

But then the news was brought to him from a spiritual source that he was considered the wisest man on earth.

A little bit confused – but not wanting to offend such a noble source– he applied his common sense He thought to himself …

“I can just go out and talk to some wise men and I’ll find out quickly that they are wiser than I and the news about me was wrong.”

So he began to discuss all kind of issues with the wisest authorities in Athens. But in every case, he ran into contradictions that showed that the “wise” men didn’t have any idea what they were talking about.

Which lead him to the rational conclusion that he was indeed the wisest man on earth since he didn’t know anything and didn’t claim to know anything.

Sometimes it pays off to be humble.

Okay, enough blabbering. Lets get practical.

So here is the technique I promised you in the beginning of this post. It’s so simple, you’ll probably get pissed off at me for talking such a BS. But think about it an apply it to your life and see what happens.

Here it goes:

Find something that works and keep on doing it!

To simple?

Lets take a billion dollar example:

Why does Starbucks have thousands of coffee houses? Because one man had a great idea which worked. Because the first one worked. The second one worked and the coffee house number 1000 worked. So they keep building new Starbucks.

If it works to say two things positive for each negative or criticizing comment, why not keep on doing it. Why not do it with everyone. Also people we dislike or have problems with. Do what works and keep on doing it.

If walking outside for a few minutes a day makes you feel better, do it every day. If drinking two liters of water every day is good for your health, do it once and then every day after that.

Find out what works and keep on doing it.

I hear the same sad story every day.

It’s from people who bought one of my program and began to work it.

Great news - it began to improve their health - the snoring was diminishing, the TMJ pain wasn’t as bad as before, the blood pressure was going down, the sexual performance was becoming better than ever, their headaches were lighter and less frequent, they had more energy.

Then, the disaster happened.

For whatever reason, the person stopped using the program. Be it laziness, be it forgetfulness, be it whatever. But he or she stopped using the program that was beginning to work so good for them.

You see, most of my programs deliver permanent results … after the underlying cause for the conditions has been eliminated.

But stopping when you see the first glimpse of results is like beginning to climb a mountain and then stopping when you’re only five feet up – you’ll eventually slide back down. You’ll never see the top.

But if you climb up to the top, you can stay there forever.

Makes sense doesn’t it? But here we go again … most of us don’t always do things that make sense.

You already knew all this, didn’t you? You knew that if you keep on doing what works, it will lead to success. I don’t expect to be called a genius for today’s wisdom.

But I hope it will motivate you to take the right action and keep on with that action.

Find something that works and keep on doing it.

Warm regards,

Christian Goodman

    Christian,

I know you’re absolutely right and so was Socrates. Now if only I can get me to act on what I know, I know I will be happier,. Yes I think you’re right. For the big questions… it’s not Maybe… it’s Yes or No. Your message is something for me to meditate on and to Sact upon. Thank you.

    Blessings on You.

I meant to “act” upon. The question II’m asking myself is: What is my resistance to answering Yes or No, if I know that that is the key to happiness. MMM an interesting question. n

    Thanks Mr. Goodman.
My TMJ still shows weakness but there is no clicking or popping. Once in awhile when I don’t expect it, I move my jaw a certain way while talking or laughing and it feels as though it will lock. I am still doing the exercises, but I feel so good most of the time, it is easy to forget to do them regularly. Like you suggested, I must keep on doing what works. Too bad I’m not making money on it like Starbucks (:o).

Also, I must get back to regular exercise and a good diet.

    Dear Christian,

Thank you again for the common sense of your topic. It`s
all so true, and I`ve lived long enough to know this to be
true.Yet like so many others,I`ve failed to put it into practice on a daily basis.
It`s never too late to give it another try,and to keep at it.

    Best regards,

    Ron

  5. Thanks for this post Christian, after giving it some more thought I agree that common sense would probably contribute more to success than anything else. Though only common sense is often not enough…
