Dizziness and Vertigo – It’s No Fun

Friday, November 28th, 2008

If you’ve ever stood up too quickly, taken a long boat ride, or enjoyed a roller coaster, chances are you’ve experienced dizziness.

Dizziness is characterized as feeling unstable, lightheaded, weak, or feeling that you or your surroundings are spinning. This sensation usually only lasts a few seconds and then disappears allowing you to continue your day uninterrupted.

Imagine if this feeling didn’t go away within a few seconds. What if the relief didn’t come until several minutes or even hours later?

Sufferers from a type of dizziness known as vertigo experience this sensation on a regular basis. Some suffer more often than others.

There are two types of vertigo, subjective and objective.

Subjective vertigo gives you the feeling that you are moving. Objective vertigo gives you the sensation that it’s not you that is moving, but your surroundings that are moving. This may cause you to tilt or sway, to have visual problems, and can cause difficulty in speaking and walking.

Other symptoms include but are not limited to nausea, vomiting, sweating, involuntary eye movements, hearing loss, and ringing in the ears. These symptoms can last anywhere from minutes to hours and can sometimes be treated with medication or certain physical maneuvers.

True vertigo originates in the brain or inner ear and is often but not always associated with hearing loss.

A common form of vertigo is called ‘benign paroxysmal positional vertigo’ (BPPV). BPPV is due to small particles in the fluid in the semicircular canals in the inner ear.

This debris is dislodged and after head movement has stopped the debris continues moving, allowing sensors in the inner ear to think there is still movement when there is none.

BPPV can be triggered by certain head movements or something as slight as rolling over in bed. Symptoms of this type of vertigo usually last several seconds before subsiding. BPPV can be treated and is usually not too serious.

Meniere’s disease is another form of vertigo in which sufferers experience a sudden onset of symptoms that include hearing loss and ringing in the ears. Treatment includes medications to reduce the spinning sensation and anxiety as well as a diet restricted in sodium.

Vertigo can also be caused by an acoustic neuroma, a tumor on the balance and hearing nerves near the inner ear. This is a more serious diagnosis but if caught early can be surgically removed.

In addition to vertigo, symptoms associated with this type of tumor can include one sided hearing loss and ringing in the ears. Vertigo can also be a result of head trauma, multiple sclerosis, migraines, and bacterial or viral infections.

Next time you’re experiencing a bout of dizziness, remember there are people who live with this everyday. They’re suffering multiple times throughout the day in some cases, often for several minutes to hours at a time.

The good news is, you don’t have to be one of them…

My all-natural program for putting a stop to dizziness and vertigo is available and has already helped thousands of others eliminate this problem from their lives. It’s extremely easy to learn a few simple exercises, and the power of those exercises can rid you of ever feeling dizzy or dealing with an episode of vertigo again.

The Importance of Sleep

Monday, November 24th, 2008

It’s interesting to consider how our lives are divided up into thirds. We get one third of our lifetime for nothing more than sleep.

The other two thirds of life are filled with the activities that we make most important to us.  We fill that time with friends, families and careers. These two thirds are the essence of our life.

But it’s the night time that is so critically important to our well being. Our bodies were designed for rest. Our physical systems do all kinds of marvelous things when we sleep.

That is when the body does repair work. Widespread research has proven that a solid seven to eight hours of sleep is needed to maintain a healthy heart as well as other vital organs.

Volumes have been written on the physical and emotional benefits of getting proper sleep for the body. Researchers, doctors, therapists…they all agree that sleep doesn’t get enough respect in the lives that most Americans are living.

National statistics refer to 64 million Americans that suffer from insomnia. That’s roughly one out of five people that are going to eventually stare into the night instead of getting the rest they deserve and require.

Think about this. Look at the commercial advertisements of the last couple of years. Late night TV is bombarded with more sleep aids than I can recall.

The pharmaceutical companies are spending millions of advertising dollars to let you know they have a pill that will do the trick and offer you a sound night of sleep. It seems everyone has a little pill to ease you into rest.

But should the cost of a ‘good night’s sleep’ be a lifetime of sleeping pills and nervous caution? Many don’t think so. New research is pointing more and more to ‘sleep environment’ in helping those with insomnia to learn to prepare for the rest they need.

We’ve all known a twenty year old that could fall asleep over the arm of a chair on a Saturday afternoon with a college football game booming in the background. But as we age, it becomes necessary for some to seduce sleep.

Darkness can certainly give us an advantage when trying to drift off at night. And a comfortable bed with enough cover to keep us warm is essential. It is equally important to make certain that your sleeping environment has the right noise setting.

For some, it must be deathly quiet while others would be bothered by that void when a drip or tapping of the night becomes a ticking bomb.

Music has comforted many with this problem and the latest trends in ‘sleep noise’ have indicated that a number of types of sounds and noises may help. Our brainwaves must transition from the activity based alpha waves to the sedate and restful beta waves as our bodies prepare for rest.

Learning the sounds that work best for us, and then recording and reproducing them has proven effective in helping some. So consider this, one significant resource for a future night of sound sleeping may just be a noise maker.

I know this for a fact because for the last several months, quite a few people have secretly been testing my new insomnia method with amazing results. All of them reported some improvements with their sleep. Most of them said they didn’t suffer from sleeplessness any more.

That’s more than even I dreamed of.

I’ll be making this method available to my blog readers soon, so keep your eyes out for my upcoming emails.

The Heartbreak of Snoring

Friday, November 21st, 2008

So much has been written about snoring. There have been thousands of testimonials and countless reports covering the malady of snoring from almost every viewpoint. Some choose to write about the causes. Others focus on suggested solutions. It’s a sure bet that if you can think of an aspect of snoring, you’ll be able to find some article that discusses it.

But unless you’ve ever been caught sitting in a crowded airport terminal on a Friday afternoon, waiting to catch a delayed flight home with your head thrown back, your mouth gaping wide while children sit around your feet laughing uncontrolled, well, you just haven’t fully understood the embarrassment that snoring can bring to your life.

I could write a book on the mortification process one must endure at the end of a long evening flight. Everyone around you is snickering and trying to avoid eye contact. Business seminars were fine throughout the morning. But after lunch, I trembled at the disgrace brought on with the realization that everyone had had a chuckle at my expense.

Spouses and family members can understand the aggravation of having to watch TV around a habitual snorer. And chances are, they’ve all had a good laugh at our expense from time to time. Loved ones have endured the noise but we’re the ones that must suffer the embarrassment.

Those of us who snore will all agree that nothing can compare to the shame one feels when being abruptly startled awake by a swift jab to the ribs while sitting in church.

Knowing that you’ve been disruptive is miniscule when compared to the humiliation of actually being caught. And the piano recitals, the high school graduations, weddings…there is simply no end to the indignity that a snorer must suffer.

So what can you do to avoid finding yourself in such a shameful situation? Stay at home while friends and family go out to enjoy the company of others?

Maybe you can find the most uncomfortable position possible to ensure that you stand absolutely no chance of dozing when you’re in any public situation. Or perhaps you can just commit yourself to forever avoiding churches, chairs, or warm auditoriums.

I’ve long believed that there must be a better solution and I’ve found it with The Stop Snoring Exercise Program.

Your snoring might have been brought on by stress. It may be the result of a physical condition, congested nasal passages, or the simple by-product of getting older. Regardless of the reason behind your snoring, The Stop Snoring Exercise Program can address the issues you face.

With exercises specifically geared toward increasing tone and developing muscle strength your snoring problems can be significantly reduced or totally eliminated.

At the same time, you’ll be improving your breathing and increasing respiratory flow. Preparing for ‘snoreless sleep’ can take a bit of effort but it can certainly be done with practice.

Give yourself a break! Lose the embarrassment of sleeping in public forever. Once you’ve mastered the art of breathing correctly, you can sleep through any sermon, snooze through every speech, and catnap your way through every company presentation for the rest of your life.

Vertigo – When the Motion Just Won’t Stop

Monday, November 17th, 2008

If you suffer with vertigo, you probably feel as though you’re on a merry-go-round that won’t stop.

It’s not so much that you feel like you’re spinning, but that everything around you is in motion, including things that shouldn’t be moving, like furniture or walls.

Many people dismiss it as nothing more than a bout of dizziness, or toss it off as just feeling lightheaded.

But the National Institute of Health reports that 40% of adults will deal with an episode of vertigo at least once.

According to studies of individuals with vertigo, it seems to strike women more often than men. Episodes tend to increase in frequency as we age.

An inner ear infection known as labyrinthitis is often associated with vertigo.

This is an inflammation of the inner ear and can cause vertigo and vomiting. The labyrinths, or canals of the inner ear are filled with fluid.

Within the fluid are tiny hairs that send impulses to the brain. The brain uses this information to identify your body’s orientation.

When the canals, or labyrinths, are irritated, the brain often receives the wrong information. The result is objects spinning or moving around you.

This illness often goes undiagnosed and therefore untreated, but can cause unpleasant, even disturbing episodes for the person suffering with it.

The reason vertigo is so often untreated is because typically the symptoms will vanish on their own within a relatively short period of time, sometimes in just a few days.

The problem is, they almost always return.

Many times the person suffering with the dizzy spells doesn’t even relate the episodes together, dismissing one as being too fatigued, perhaps the next one as being associated with a severe headache.

As a result, the condition can go on for quite some time before a pattern of repeated episodes is recognized. The treatment most often prescribed is medication, typically meclizine.

You may be more familiar with some of the brand names, such as Bonine, Antivert, or Dramamine.

But like all medications, there are contraindications and potential side effects associated with taking the drug. And it doesn’t address the cause of the dizziness; it simply allows you to control the symptoms.

What most people don’t know, and something that most doctors don’t tell you, is that there could be another cause for your vertigo. Something besides an inner ear infection.

It could be caused by muscle tension.

As odd as that may sound, if you have tension in the muscles around your eyes, ears, or your body line from the top of your head to your pelvic bone, you may experience vertigo or episodes of dizziness as a result.

I’ve developed a natural system for relaxing and releasing that muscle tension that has allowed thousands of people to free themselves from vertigo.

By performing a few simple exercises every day, they soon report no more dizzying episodes.

The results that have been reported to me have been nothing less than amazing. So if you suffer, even occasionally, from feeling like everything is spinning around you, I encourage you to give my natural vertigo system a try. It will bring your world back into focus for you.

High Blood Pressure – An Easy, Natural Step Towards Lowering It

Friday, November 14th, 2008

In my many travels to numerous areas of the world, it’s come to my attention that high blood pressure is not just a Western problem; it’s rising in many other parts of the world. Curious as to why it’s happening, I did a little research and came up with some interesting facts.

For one thing, the population of the entire world is getting older and fatter, contributing in part to the increase in blood pressure problems. In some countries in Western Europe, the rate of hypertension is even higher than in the US.

In Germany, for instance, 55% of the adult population has high blood pressures issues. Spain is not much better with 45% of their adults dealing with hypertension. England, Italy, and Sweden follow close behind at 38%.

Experts estimate approximately 1 billion people around the world have high blood pressure. That number is expected to swell by another half billion in the next 15-20 years. One of the best known reasons for high blood pressure is taking in too much salt.

While the obvious solution seems to be putting down the saltshaker, it’s not quite as easy as that. Why? Because of the hidden sodium lurking in so many of the foods we eat. Almost all processed foods have some amount of sodium, and some have astronomically high amounts.

Before I reveal some of the sodium amounts in foods, it’s important to know the normal requirements for sodium. We do need a certain amount every day, generally about 2400 milligrams (mg). Requirements in the UK are even less, about 1600 mg per day.

Sodium performs some important functions in the body, not the least of which is the regulation of blood volume and blood pressure. It also assists in nerve impulse transmission and regulates the acid/base balance (the pH) of the body.

Unfortunately, the average sodium intake here in the US is between 4,000 and 5,000 mg every day. It’s little wonder then, that 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure. Even if you watch your salt intake, you still get an enormous amount of sodium in the foods you eat.

I’ve listed below some foods that are frequently eaten by millions of Americans. Take note of their sodium content and it’s easy to see how people are taking in far more than 2400 mg. each and every day.

1. Burger King double cheeseburger – 1170 mg sodium
 McDonald’s regular cheeseburger – 830 mg

2. Burger King large fries – 940 mg
 McDonald’s large fries – 350 mg

3. Pizza Hut medium pizza, 1slice pepperoni lover’s – 760 mg
Dominos, 14 inch hand tossed pepperoni pizza, 1 slice – 723 mg

4. Doritos, 1 ounce (12 chips) – 220 mg

5. Wheat Thins, 1 ounce (16 crackers) – 260 mg

6. Dunkin Donuts Banana Nut Muffin – 540 mg

7. McDonald’s Fish Filet Sandwich, no tartar sauce – 520 mg

8. Jack in the Box sourdough grilled chicken club – 1,220 mg

9. Church’s Chicken breast, 1 piece – 760 mg

10. Chick-Fil-A chicken and cheese biscuit – 1,430 mg

Can you see how quickly the sodium content adds up? And this doesn’t even touch on the frozen dinners and canned vegetables from the grocery store. And let’s face it…when was the last time you ate only 12 Doritos?

Start paying attention to how much sodium you’re actually taking in. Read labels, and be prepared to be stunned. If you’re not already dealing with high blood pressure, chances are you’re not far from becoming one of the statistics.

If you’re already trying to get spiraling blood pressure under control, you don’t have to resort to blood pressure medication. The program I developed only requires a few simple exercises done each day.

They can be performed in the span of a few minutes and will provide significant results in lowering your blood pressure to normal limits.

Weight Loss And Your Body Furnace?

Monday, November 10th, 2008

You may not think of it often, but your body is much like a furnace. You give it fuel, which it burns to provide heat and energy. Ideally, your body burns the same amount of fuel you give it and your body weight remains relatively constant.

Unfortunately, most of us give our body far more fuel than it’s able to burn. The rest, of course, gets stored as fat. The problem is actually twofold – not only do we give our bodies more fuel than it needs, we often give it fuel it doesn’t even recognize as fuel.

Imagine trying to feed a fire with stones. The fire can’t use the stones as fuel, so they just sit there. The same thing happens when you fill your body with food that’s over processed and filled with chemicals and preservatives.

Much of the food we eat today is useless to the body as fuel because the body doesn’t even recognize it as food. The body breaks down what we give it, but doesn’t find the components it needs, like vitamins and minerals, or the right kind of fats, complex carbohydrates, and lean proteins.

When the body fails to find the nutrients it needs to survive, it does the only thing it knows to do. So it triggers the hunger signals in an attempt to get what it needs. You eat more because you feel hungry again. And this vicious cycle repeats itself over and over again.

The end result is often a fat, but pitifully undernourished body. The solution to this part of the problem is to eat more real food. Not fast food, not boxed, canned, or frozen food that has had all the nutrients processed out of it. Real food like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

In addition to not providing the proper nutrients to the body, there’s another crucial component that gets overlooked entirely too often. In order for anything to burn, three things are necessary, material to burn, heat to burn it with, and oxygen.

Most traditional diet programs deal with the material (the food) or increasing the heat (your body temperature) through exercise. Very few if any address the issue of not providing enough oxygen.

If you don’t think oxygen is essential for fat loss, consider what happens when you cover a candle. If you have a candle in a glass jar, for instance, and you put the lid on it, within seconds the flame flickers and dies. It needs oxygen to continue burning.

Your body is the same as that candle flame, and needs oxygen in order to burn off fat. With our predominantly sedentary lifestyle, we’ve all become a society of ‘shallow breathers’. Every cell in our body needs oxygen to survive and in order to burn fat, we need even more oxygen than most of us are taking in.

There’s one weight loss program that addresses the issue of providing the body the oxygen it needs to efficiently burn off fat. It’s found right here in my Weight Loss Breeze program and it could be the easiest weight you’ve ever taken off.

It consists of a few simple exercises that take only minutes a day to perform and the results are astonishing. Combine that with giving your body real food with sufficient nutrients and there’s no reason you can’t have the slim, healthy body you’ve been striving for.

Christian Goodman

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I travel often, in fact more often than not.  It seems that I see women everywhere scurrying through their daily lives, the same as me.  But these women are carrying a new life. A little person completely dependent upon them for survival – not the same as me!  Pregnancy amazes me.

Unfortunately for some, pregnancy does not allow for a “normal” daily life.  Certain conditions such as Pregnancy Induced Hypertension can create emotional as well as serious physical concerns.

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) also sometimes referred to as preeclampsia or toxemia occurs in about 5 to 10 percent of pregnancies.  Chronic hypertension varies from PIH in that it is normally present prior to pregnancy.

Both conditions, however, can pose serious health threats to both mother and baby.   There are also cases of gestational high blood pressure which do not necessarily pose the same risks, but can increase the chances of the mother later developing PIH.

Why high blood pressure is a problem in pregnancy

Blood flow to different systems in the body is hindered with high blood pressure.  Because of the lack of blood flow, the baby can suffer too.

The restricted blood flow can cause the fetus to abrupt from the placenta prematurely (placental abruption.)  The baby can also be underweight or suffer a lack of proper development due to the lack of nutrients.

Worse, PIH left untreated can lead to seizures, the mother’s death and/or fetal death.

Symptoms of Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (not a complete list):

 high blood pressure
 blurred vision
 extreme nausea
 edema or swelling
more than trace amounts of protein in the urine present

Each symptom alone does not necessarily mean that PIH is present.  It is usually a combination of two or more symptoms.

These systems may result in regular trips to the doctor for monitoring to determine if PIH has developed is or likely to develop.

Treatment

Having the baby is the best cure for the mother, but not necessarily the best option for the baby.  The baby may not yet be developed enough to sustain life outside the womb.

The most common treatment for PIH during pregnancy is increased rest.  Different degrees of bed rest may be in order for different cases of severity in order to lower blood pressure.  Some women find themselves spending weeks or even months in bed, often lying on their left side.  These women are usually advised only to get up for bathroom and shower trips or to grab a bite to eat.

The stress of a complicated pregnancy affects not just the mother, but those who love them especially the father or partner.  I’ve spoken with a number of fathers whose own blood pressure soared as a result of such stress and tension during pregnancy.

If you are pregnant, take your pre-natal care seriously.  Almost all pregnancies result in happy, healthy babies, mothers AND fathers.  Reduce the stress and tension in your life wherever possible to help keep your blood pressure normal or at least at manageable levels.

My blood pressure program focuses on intense relaxation which is also a good accompaniment to bed rest.  It can also assist the loved ones who are experiencing the anxiety from a complicated or even a healthy pregnancy.

Warm Regards,
Christian Goodman

What Causes Vertigo and Dizziness?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

It is actually amazing that we can in fact stand on two feet without falling. And not only that, many of us can run, jump, spin around in circle or even ride a bike down a steep stony mountain hill without falling.

Healthy people can do most of that thanks to our amazing balance system.

But unfortunately, the balance system does not always function right and when it stops functioning we experience a feeling called vertigo or dizziness (I’ll talk about it as the same thing here because the cause is the same although these two feelings are experienced in a different way).

We’ve all felt dizziness and had vertigo at some time in our life. Be it from sailing in bad waves, driving on a dusty road, traveling to a high altitude or even having a few too many at the bar (I could tell you some stories).

Luckily for most people it is only a temporary situation that quickly blows over and no solution needs to be sought.

However, thousands of people suffer from what is called chronic vertigo / dizziness. If you suffer from this condition, you either constantly feel dizzy or you get dizzy several times a year, month or even week – often without any obvious reason.

This kind of chronic vertigo/dizziness is caused by problems with the balance system.

We all have three kinds of balance systems.
In the…

 ears
 eyes
 body sense

Our balance system is so advantaged that even if one part goes out, we may feel it a little but we’ll still function pretty much normally. Most blind people can walk normally – so can a person who has problems with the balance system in his/her ears.

However, if two or even three of those balance systems become ineffective, we have a big problem. That is why it is so important to strengthen all three balance systems even if one or two are too weak to completely heal them.

So how do we strengthen our balance system?

You see, 90% of the time, dizziness and vertigo are caused by tension in the muscles around our balance system – the eyes, the ears or the body line from the top of our skull to the pelvic bone.

For example if you have tension in the eye muscles, then your eye’s balance system conceives the world  in just a tiny bit different way than your ear’s balance system does.

These two balance systems send two different messages to the brain. This causes confusion when your brain tries to process the information. Needless to say, you feel dizzy.

If you’ve ever tried eyeglasses that are too strong for you, you know exactly what I mean.

Now if your balance system in your ear was 100% and your body’s balance system was 100% - you could still function pretty well even if there was a problem with the eye’s balance system. But it hardly ever is so you feel dizzy or even experience the world spinning around you.

The solution is to strengthen and loosen up all muscles around all your balance systems – as well as strengthening your body’s balance awareness.

You do not even have to do this perfectly. If you only bring each of these systems to 70% function, that is enough for you to never feel dizziness or vertigo again. That is exactly what my natural vertigo and dizziness program does.

Warm regards,

Christian Goodman
